MCM Classes, Summer/Fall 2010

Morning Classes from August 23rd- October 29, 2010

Mini Masters of Art

MCM’s Artist in Residence leads families in interactive projects using different techniques that even little hands can grasp. Sculpt like Rodan, paint like Picasso, collage like Matisse.

Art 2 Start

Explore the world of shapes, color and texture playing with paints, fabrics, pastels, found objects and more. Students develop fine motor and cognitive skills through experimentation, listening and responding. Please bring extra clothes since it will be a wonderful, yet sometimes messy experience!
Wednesday 10:45 am – 11:45 am
2 Years – 3 ½ Year Olds
The students develop and strengthen their creative skills engaging their senses, heart and mind. They explore the elements of art: line, shape, color, space, form, texture and value, using a large variety of art materials and methods.

Rockin Baby

12-24 months Monday 10:45 AM -11:45 AM

Rock out at this music and movement class for babies! Children will develop their sense of rhythm, balance and cooperative learning, while parents discover how to integrate music and motion, and to foster social skills.

Yoga for Mommy-n-Me

(September 16, 2010-November 18, 2010)

Thursday 10:45 am - 11:45 am

A 10 week-long series of multi-sensory yoga classes for Moms (Dads or other caregivers) and their young children ages 18 months through 36 months. Participants will learn some basic Hatha yoga postures, breathing, stretching and relaxation techniques, to use with all members of the family. Nestled in the interactive and child-focused setting of the Miami Children’s Museum, families will have the chance to bond, improve wellness, and reduce stress; all while encouraging appropriate social interactions and basic school-readiness skills. Practicing Yoga has been shown to increase strength, flexibility, balance and attention span, for adults and children. These activities can be an important part of supporting positive behavior. Yoga for Mommy-n-Me will be facilitated by Phillip Collazo, a Certified Yoga Teacher, with 6 years experience teaching children with all levels of abilities.

My Little One and Me

MiChiMu French Class

Mondays and Wednesday at 2:05 p.m. (3-5 year olds)

Tuesday and Thursdays at 2:05 pm (2-3 year olds)

Our MiChiMu French class is a fun and innovative way to teach children a new language. This class will introduce children to French grammar, songs, verbs, and vocabulary. Children will experience hands on learning approach. Madame Corinne Pluchon has been teaching French to pre-schools students for many years. Your children will be learning throughout the year? All the basics: name, numbers, colors, food, animal, body, shapes, family, days of week.

MiChiMu Cooking Classes

Tuesdays 2:15 pm – 3 pm (ages 3-5)

Tuesday 3:15pm – 4 pm (ages 5- 10)

MiChiMu Cooking classes provide children with hands-on experiences assisting a culinary school graduated Chef to prepare fresh and nutritious foods. These classes are designated to create and promote healthy eating habits, teaching basic cooking skills, and expanding the children’s knowledge of nutrition and food-related vocabulary.

Michimu Rhythm & Groove

Wednesday 2:15 pm/ (ages 5-9 are welcome)

Stretch, groove, and have fun while learning to dance all at the same time. Rhythm and groove to the style of freestyle dance through poetic expression and movement is a class that will introduce children to the basics of dancing. Different styles of dancing will be incorporated in this class as well. In addition, children will learn to further develop their rhythm and co-ordination skills while having fun.

Yoga for Me

MiChiMu Art Classes

Thursday 3:15 pm/ (ages 5-9 are welcome)

Students develop artistic skills, creative problem-solving and critical thinking. They do drawing, painting, collage and construction through guided instruction that also teaches patience and follow through.

* Please note there will be no classes on November 25 or November 26, 2010.
