On the second Saturday of every month, Miami Children’s Museum offers a sensory friendly experience for children with disabilities and their families. While the Museum is temporarily closed, we are bringing those experiences to you virtually!
Join us every second Saturday for sensory friendly activities including at home how-to’s, art projects, and special performances!
Thereʼs something LOVELY about squishy materials. In fact, many children, and even adults, find it relaxing and soothing to play with such things. Today, weʼll make a squishy sensory bag that you can use to not only smoosh around, but to also help develop fine motor skills, practice sorting, and create all sorts of sensory moments.
“Skinnamarink a doo, I love you!”
Join our Theatre Troupe as we sing & dance to one of our favorite songs in honor of Valentine’s Day! Tell your family and friends how much you love them with this sensory friendly activity.
This Valentineʼs Day try an engaging water-based activity your little ones will LOVE. Water play is packed with sensory opportunities. The water is always changing shape, has a distinct tactile feeling, and responds immediately to your childʼs actions.
Today we are taking a sensory walk! Using your 5 senses to explore the world around you is a great way to promote sensory development and fitness! Join us as we sing along to this original song created by our Theatre Troupe.
Our bodies are our tools to navigate through this world. Our little ones use their bodies especially when they are younger to explore everything around them. Introducing and identifying body parts is a great way to build vocabulary and body awareness that will help increase their confidence. Create a sensory bin with us that focuses on body parts! Include any play medical tools, too, to help introduce instruments they may see at a doctorʼs visit. This will make a trip to the doctor a little less scary!
Many children have texture aversions to different foods. In this activity, Ashley is taking us into the kitchen to show you creative ways to change the texture of some of your favorite healthy foods to help young children with aversions!
Join us as we create a winter wonderland snowscape using painted snow we can create ourselves! Using very few materials, like construction paper, glue, and shaving cream, this three-dimensional landscape is a great sensory based activity that is just as fun to create as it is to look at!
Winter is the coldest season of the year, occurring after autumn, which typically brings snow! Although Miami doesn’t experience a winter season, we can try to imagine what it would be like by exploring these various sensory bins.
This Sensory Saturday, join Bree-Anna and our Theatre Troupe for a very special adaptation of “The Polar Express”.
